Decks for Mike’s Cards

This page has free original decks for use with the Mac OS version of Mike’s Cards. You must be a registered user of the program in order to use the decks! Click the eye to see a preview image. Click the Mac OS icon to download the deck, which must be decompressed with StuffIt Expander. I hope to refine these decks in the near future. My noncommercial use of characters created by others should not be construed as lack of respect for copyrights or trademarks.

Family Deck #1 (unclothed, but not sexual) Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 880 kilobytes Instead of 10, jack, queen and king, this deck has daughter, son, mother and father; the aces have been changed to ones (details). To my knowledge, my ISP’s acceptable use policy does not explicitly prohibit nude images, but if nudity offends you, do not download this deck! Figures were made with Curious Labs Poser 4.03 and no photographs!
Family Deck #2 (clothed) Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 1000 kilobytes Similar to Family Deck #1, but with clothed figures in mostly upper body shots. Figures were made with Curious Labs Poser 4.03 and no photographs! In late June 2001, I made a different mother of spades, which makes the compressed file 12K larger but looks better. I hope Mike Sedore adds a feature to the next version of Mike’s Cards to allow the player to select indexes in different languages.
Small Wonder Deck (1980s U.S. television series) Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 516 kilobytes New for 2004 is this deck based on the television series which starred Tiffany Brissette. The card index font is Card Characters, which Harold Lohner based on the indexes of Bicycle® playing cards. Be sure to visit the new Small Wonder site, from which the card images were taken.
Scooby-Doo Deck Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 1.3 megabytes The 10 of hearts has been changed as of 2002 September 29.
Suitless Deck Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 592 kilobytes This deck consists of plain black-and-white PICT images. The absence of suit symbols makes this deck ideal for Blackjack, Monte Carlo and Pyramid.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Deck Creator: Vegard Krog Petersen Size: 1.1 megabytes A Norwegian man created this deck for the Windows version of Mike’s Cards, featuring the star of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I merely converted it for the Mac OS version of Mike’s Cards.
The Invisible Woman Deck (unsold U.S. television pilot) Creator: James H. Vipond Size: 884 kilobytes I now have a photograph of Harvey Korman on the jacks, from the CBS Web site. The pictures of Alexa Hamilton and Bob Denver were taken from the Invisiphiles Yahoo! Group. Note: This card set was compressed in SITX format and may not be usable with Mac OS 9.

Andrea Pollett’s Collection: Here is another collection of non-standard card faces, including special illustrations and variants of the international pattern. The site is in English and Italian.
The World of Playing Cards: This British site features playing cards of various nations, as well as information on making your own playing cards.
P.J. Madsen’s Virtual Playing Card Museum: Another British collector displays yet another assortment of unusual decks, including Teddy Bears by Peter Wood, the M Pack (which I like, except for the fortunetellers replacing queens), the 1962 Fournier Europe deck (which depicts 16th-century European fashions) and many variations on the English court pattern popularized by Charles Goodall, one of England’s most prolific printers of playing cards.
The World Web Playing Card Museum: This Russian collector has scanned many decks and unidentified jokers from around the world. Some decks include nudity and other adult content!
Pysol Fan Club Edition: This open-source Python game supports not only rectangular Western cards, but also Indian ganjifa, Japanese hanafuda and Chinese mah-jongg tiles. Unfortunately, it does not seem possible for end users to create their own PySol content.
Hardwood Games User Decks: I know, they’re for the Windows version of Hardwood Solitaire III, but it can still be a source of ideas. I do not know whether the Mac OS X version of Hardwood Solitaire supports the Deck Press.
Solitaire City Card Sets: For another Windows game (not ported to Mac OS), but another potential source of ideas.
REKO and RKP Cardsets: The decks on this German site are in formats that Mike’s Cards does not support (yet). Also visit the non-nude section of RekoNet.
Pretty Good Solitaire: The Mac version, Solitaire Plus!, apparently cannot use PGS card sets.

I recently purchased a Trump brand deck to scan for use in Mike’s Cards. It is one of several playing card brands originally made in St. Paul, Minnesota. I have not yet received permission from the U.S. Playing Card Co. to distribute the card images for Mike’s Cards.
