Comparison of Wheel of Fortune Title Fonts

On this page I compare two fonts based on the title logo of Wheel of Fortune: the freeware Fortune Wheel by Derek Vogelpohl of ShyFonts, and the commercial font Chesty (previously called Bust) on the Dover Moderne Display Fonts CD-ROM. [ Sample of Fortune Wheel | Sample of Chesty ]

Besides having no lowercase letters, Fortune Wheel differs from Chesty in at least 10 uppercase letters: B, G, K, M, P, Q, S, X, Y and Z. (I am not qualified to compare all character outlines in both fonts.) Also, the Fortune Wheel font has a “wheel” glyph in the Shift-O position and lacks an ampersand. Below is a direct comparison of the two fonts, both shown at 24 points.

The Chesty font appears to be the actual source of the Wheel of Fortune title, which is the only place I have seen this font used. One curiosity: Dan X. Solo, or whoever digitized Chesty for the Dover CD-ROM, has added a counter to the uppercase R. It did not need a counter when the game show began in 1974, and it does not need a counter now.
